Aguila FieldTrip

February 27, 2022 @ 7:30 am - 5:00 pm

Club Members,

On Sunday, February 27th, Mike will lead a trip to Aguila AZ (between Salome and Wickenburg). We will be looking for chrysocolla, shattuckite, quartz and pyrite.  Meet at the lapidary shop starting at 7:30am to sign in, and if needed, to find a ride with someone who has a 4 wheel drive.  If you need a ride, make sure you let it be known as soon as you arrive at the lapidary shop.   We will leave the lapidary shop at 8:00am.  This is the same area as the January 9th trip but we will be rockhounding at a different site.
If you get separated from the caravan, we will be meeting up in Aguila at approx 10:30am at Woody’s gas station, and moving forward from there at 11:00 am.  Directions are Hwy 95 to Parker, turn left in Parker and stay with Hwy 95 and go east, which will turn into Hwy 72 in 11 miles (do not turn right to Quartzite).  Continue east on Hwy 72 until you get to the little town of Hope. Turn left on Hwy 60 toward Aguila.  Follow Hwy 60 to Eagle Eye Rd. where Woody’s is on the corner.  After we re-group at Woody’s, it’s 18 miles to Bullard mine on a dirt road.
The distance one way is 122 miles. This will be an all day trip so make sure your tank is full of gas and you have plenty of water, snacks & food. Bring tools, a bucket or backpack and walkie talkie radio (Channel 3).  A camp chair is always good for resting and lunch.
